Veteran Silicon Valley headhunter Brian Golter had to look to his own career with its early struggles to find what he thinks is the true key to landing the job.

“I’ve been observing the job market for the last 25 years, and what I’m finding in the new job market it’s required that those that are finding a position are able to bring their absolute best to the job search process,” says Mr. Golter.

“They’re a very, very small minority … able to overcome their fears and uncertainties and the sense of inadequacy that we all go through when we reach unemployment. They’re able to tap into courage and a sense of certainty and confidence,” he says.

He has been president of his own firm, Brian Golter & Associates in Mountain View, for the past five years. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, he worked with the late legendary recruiter June Gregory for two decades.

"As anyone who met June can attest, she may have been the world's greatest career counselor," says Mr. Golter. "June was fierce in not letting candidates settle for anything less than the best in their careers.”

“Understanding how to bring your absolute best to the job market is no longer an extra edge. It is a necessity," says Mr. Golter.
